WOMEN OF COLOUR
REFINERY29
Women Of Colour sheds light on intersectional feminism from a racial perspective. Not only are women of colour dealing with the sexism conveyed in popular culture, but they’re also dealing with racism and prejudice in the same breath. In this film, these women unapologetically call out the stereotypes they’ve been subjected to.
The statements heard in the film are pre-recorded soundbites taken from interviews with the women who feature.
“I wanted to highlight the voices of women from different ethnicities, as our experiences aren’t always reflected in mainstream feminism. It was an opportunity to show how the sexist remarks and attitudes for these women, are often loaded with racial connotations and stereotypes. It’s hard for all women to jump on board with mainstream feminism, when our experiences are often overlooked.” – Marian Edusei, ‘Free the Bid’.
